No one has the legal right to force or pressure you into having an abortion. If your partner wants you to choose abortion and you aren't sure it's what you want, permit yourself to set healthy boundaries.Giving yourself space to consider your own values and priorities can help you make a confident decision for your future.

If you and your partner see the pregnancy differently, we offer a safe space where you can feel heard and supported as you explore your options in a compassionate environment through our free options consultations.

Evaluate the Context of His Response

If you told him the news and his first response was to recommend abortion, but that was the only conversation that you’ve had with him, or if the news of the pregnancy is

still fresh, take a step back and consider a few questions:

  • Is he willing to talk about other options besides abortion?

  • Has he had time to process the pregnancy and his emotions?

  • If he doesn't change his mind, what do you want to do?

Sometimes a partner's first reaction is driven by surprise or adrenaline. After having time to think, he may be more open to discussing parenting, adoption, or the support available to both of you.

If he refuses to listen, makes threats, or tries to control your decision, take those behaviors seriously and take precautions such as meeting in a public place for any future conversations.

You can also contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline if you feel unsafe and want to make an exit plan. Dial 911 if you are in immediate danger and need help from law enforcement.
